Child & Adolescent Psychology
As parents and caregivers we can feel anxious and stuck if we are unsure of how best to support the young person in our life when they’re going through a tough time. Whether you’re concerned for a child, tween, or teen, our team of psychologists are here to help. Here at MWG we are lucky enough to have a “mini team” within our wider team who love working with young people and their families. This means that you receive specific care that is not only tailored to your needs but also care that meets your needs through knowledge and training specific to young people and families.
Sometimes it can be really challenging to encourage the young person in your life to attend therapy. In these instances, we still encourage parents and caregivers to seek out support with us because you can still effect change by obtaining advice and strategies to help at home. For example, aT MWG our psychologists use SPACE informed treatment to help families struggling with OCD, and Anxiety Disorders such as phobias and separation anxiety. SPACE is a program that was developed by Professor Eli Lebowitz from Yale University in the United States. This program teaches parents and caregivers ways they can make helpful changes at home to support the young person in their life even if they’re not in therapy.
treatment process for young people
When working with children and adolescents, we liaise with parents as appropriate based on the child’s developmental stage. Typically, we work closely with parents of younger children and provide updates to parents and caregivers as necessary for older teenagers. Our approach aligns with the developmental needs of the individual.
Some of the areas we work with are Autism, ADHD, OCD, learning disorders, behavioural issues, trauma, school refusal, phobias, separation anxiety, feeding and eating difficulties. If you are unsure of whether we have team members who can assist you please call us on 9882-8874.
