Why creating connections are important in nurturing your wellbeing

When we think of wellbeing so many different things come to mind as it’s a word that is being thrown around a lot these days, but what does it mean and why do we need to create connection to nurture our wellbeing?

For us here at Melbourne Wellbeing Group, a sense of wellbeing is subjective as everyone’s life experience is unique.  When we work with our clients, we focus on creating a connection with our clients so that they are able to nurture a sense of wellbeing within themselves.  The connection that is established with our clients therefore becomes an anchor point for our clients, a base if you like, where they can explore ideas, develop skills, and further develop their sense of self so that they can realise their own potential.

So, what are some ways you can build connections to nurture your wellbeing?

  1. Identify people’s strengths: Discuss yours and your friend’s strengths, and give each other the opportunities to use them. Begin to plan activities around the strengths you both have and can bond over. Supporting others to be the best they can be, naturally brings out the best in us.

  2. See things from others point of view: Don’t be quick to judge, try take a walk in someone else’s shoes. Understanding others allows us to demonstrate kindness and opens us to the possibility of building new connections

  3. Be empathetic: Basically, understand how someone is feeling and let them know you understand

  4. Unconditional Positive Regard: Accept others for who they are. Hear and understands what the person is feeling and offer to be present with them in that moment.

  5. Be genuine: Genuineness is one of the most important of the core conditions for building connections. When people are genuine with each other they build real connections that naturally nurture both your wellbeing

  6. Make time for your loved ones: Take time from your busy week to see a friend, family member or an old work colleague. These connections are the most important for your wellbeing as they are usually the most genuine and effortless
